We are constantly filtering our experiences for things that are similar to our worldview. It seems illogical to hate someone so much for thinking very strongly about one thing because of our strong belief that we are right. It takes a lot of effort to try and see where the other person is coming from, especially if it seems to fundamentally different than our values and beliefs. My practice as a nurse is based on current evidence. Current is the key. We know a lot more now  than we did 50 years ago, we know a lot more now than we did 5 years ago and the knowledge being produced is much more accessible and subject to much more scrutiny than it was, and there are efforts being made all the time for researchers to be more and more transparent about their research as well as research about the research process. It’s amazing really. Things that seemed ridiculous at one time sometimes actually turned out to be amazing. Case in point: antibiotics and hand washing.

Peace,
