I went to an all day workshop on “dealing with difficult people” a few years ago. Something that the speaker said that day deeply changed my perspective on what it means to be relational and do relational practice. The speaker said that there was no pre-requisite to gaining their respect, the person(s) with her just had it. That was a conscious decision made, that human beings deserve respect. I embrace this and hold it close to my heart. I don’t think one should have to prove (in some arbitrary way that may boil down to sharing your worldview? And value system?) that they deserve respect.
Peace,
Michelle D.
