The world is beautiful, if we want it to be. The little moments, the big moments, the things we relish in, the things that break our hearts; life is all of it. We cannot go around it. We must go through it.

This glorious thing we call life is sometimes wonderful and sometimes the worst. Have you ever sat down ( or walked around) and deeply thought about why we choose to do any of this? I have. These are my pearls of wisdom in the finals days of the year 2020.

1. We are all in this together, whether you like it or not.

I don’t mean we are all working together all the time. We aren’t. But we are all here, living this moment together. Imagine if we did things to help each other instead of doing things to help ourselves? What is actually motivating every action?

2. The world will continue to exist without me, but I’m the only me that will ever be in this world.

I’m important. I’m not the most important. I might feel like the most important person to certain people. I matter. You matter.

I feel this need for endless progress, when I am not even sure what progress is. Are these strange motivational things that guide us like “you only live once” just marketing gimmicks? I have these oscillating moments of the wanting to move full force to disrupt everything and then feeling so exhausted I just want to throw in the towel.

3. If everything felt easy then why would anything matter?

It’s a toughie, all these challenges and obstacles that get in the way of the path we think we are walking to true bliss. These moments of wanting everything to be easy and then knowing that if everything wasn’t super-hard then it wouldn’t matter.

Questions to think about:

What motivates you?

What makes you want to get up in the morning?

Dig really deep and think about it. This is more than a values inventory exercise. This is what guides your moral compass.

Love,

Michelle D.
