The seasons, they are changing. Another school year has started. Another month to question my life choice and ask, what are my internal and external means of validation?
What is a PhD anyway? Is is just another 4-7 years of school? Is it a way to make a contribution to the knowledge of nursing? Am I going to feel smarter and more accomplished at the end? These are all great questions that I want answers to. How do you know if a PhD is the right choice for you? I will tell you this: it is an incredible, ideally life-changing choice to make. So make the decision with your eyes wide open.
It is a journey that tests mental fortitude, self-esteem, work-family-life balance. Those of us who start do not all make it to the end. This month on The Shift Change learn about one nurses PhD journey. It’s a leak into the twists and turns that hopefully lead to a transformative learning experience.
It is not an easy road. Hearing the story of a peer helped me muster up some hope that I too will be done…one day sooner than later hopefully.
Love,
Michelle D.
