History books are great. Have you ever wondered how the hospital system started in North America? Well look no more. The book The Care of Strangers by Charles E. Rosenberg explains it.

The 19th century was a wild ride of Centralization of hospitals, professionalization of medicine, and physicians firmly embedding their role of prominence within the healthcare system. How did this influence development of the hospital system in Canada? I have yet to investigate that in depth, but I assure you, when I do, I will let you know.

I’m always a little bit disappointed (morally distressed?) when I learn about the hierarchies of the hospital system. That is something for me to reflect on.

Love,

Michelle D.
