I’m sick of bullshit memes and Instagram stories filled with sage life advice that are sort of helpful but (I think) are mostly selling self-brands and clicks and likes. Is it going to far to say it’s the Amway of the 21st century? All I can see on Instagram is people selling things…promoting things? Am I a brand? Are you a brand? I’m not sure what the line is between social media as a communication tool that has the potential to build communities and innovate and social media as a way to feed the capitalist machine…maybe they’re the same thing.

Do people actually make money with Instagram feeds or are they just misguided projects in self-indulgence and future digital artifacts? YouTube and TikToc are certainly influenced my under 12 year old children.

Are digital artifacts a thing? They should be. Social media is a strange anthropological journey.

Question everything. But in a critical way not like the person doing their smart phone mediated research sitting on the crapper.

Love,

Michelle D.
