The BC Government Employee Union (BCGEU) issued a strike notice on Friday August 12, 2022. Will all healthcare workers who are also negotiating their contracts soon follow? Are all those who were banging those pots at shift change time and calling us angels going to be out supporting healthcare workers now?

For my dissertation research I have been reading about this historical BCGEU strike when Tranquille School in Kamloops, BC was shut down in 1983 under a Social Credit government.

Many of the nurses and healthcare staff I work with now started working after any major job action took place. Many of the nurses that I work with do not know about the history of the labour unions within which we work.

I am hopeful that an agreeable contract can be negotiated.

When I start writing about the history of organized nurse labour movements in Canada this will be part of that history.
