The past year has been different than the other 38 years of my life in terms of how small my immediate circle of people that am in contact with has become. Being a nurse during a pandemic is something that, strangely I feel like I have been preparing for my entire career (thanks University of Calgary and strangely Alberta Health Services). Trying to inch forward with my PhD has proven quite a feat in self-motivation and unearthed some incredible self-esteem struggles. As the need for side-projects increases, so does my motivation to send these side projects it into the world for judgement, and, not surprisingly, my need to collaboratively engage with other like-minded nurses in said side project endeavours. All that, is really a long-winded intro to revealing a link to the latest episode of The Shift Change. If you don’t know what The Shift Change is, don’t worry, not many people do; it’s a podcast that my friend and colleague Claire and I make about nursing. And, I’m not going to say listernership is gaining steam, because it’s not, but our motivation to produce something that may have some impact on brining nurses who have social justice, critical perspectives, compassion and a need to connect with other nurses together has increased ten-fold in the last few months.

So, if you have 30 minutes to spare, I invite you to listen to the latest episode of The Shift Change. The topic this month is a welcome back, and reflection on the past year living in a pandemic. We welcome feedback. And, we also welcome guests who have something interesting to discuss about nursing.

Peace,

Michelle D.
