For some (following in the footsteps of well-known nurse Florence Nightingale) nursing is a calling. For some nursing is a day job, a career pursuit that came about out of necessity or perhaps a happy accident. Problems arise when the care of the patients becomes the obstacle that is getting in the way between me and going home for the day (or night). When the patient, the centre of all that is nursing, becomes a roadblock instead of the centre of nursing work, that is a problem.
Nursing is a beautiful profession, one in which we have the privilege of being with patients and their families in all stages of life from birth to death. During times of critical health crisis, like pandemics, nurses are strained, with the pressures of the healthcare system becoming our struggles.
Love,
Michelle D.
