Some things that are deeply important to me are not important to you. The expanse of social media communication on the Internet is a hotbed of half conversations, ignoring those who do not share our perspectives, and blocking those we disagree with. The outcome? Confirmation bias extraordinaire. And, with the decrease in face to face contact with anyone (everyone?) except those in our immediate social circles, the effect of increasingly surrounding ourselves with that which feeds our beliefs and values is something we need to take notice of.
Social media outlets like Facebook and Instagram are not designed to be educational tools that increase social consciousness or expose us to transformative learning experiences. Social media tools are intended for generating Internet traffic, to attract people to websites, as marketing tools.
There are many mentally, emotionally heavy things happening in our world right now. Are we in this together? We can choose to be.
I invite you to seek out perspectives that differ from yours and think about why they differ.
I invite you to listen and learn about perspectives that challenge you understanding of the world.

Peace,
Michelle D.
